Softball Game Preview: Columbus East Olympians vs. Whiteland Warriors

The Columbus East Olympians will challenge the Whiteland Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Columbus East sitting on three straight wins and Whiteland on four.

Columbus East is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Columbus North get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The game was the first time the Olympians have beaten the Bull Dogs on their field since April 18, 2018.

Fish Baleigh was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lola Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Whiteland made sure to put some runs up on the board against Franklin Community on Wednesday. The Warriors were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Grizzly Cubs. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Whiteland's win bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Columbus East, their victory bumped their record up to 10-15.
