Softball Recap: Wardlaw Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Northside Christian Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wardlaw Academy). They were the clear victors by a 20-7 margin over the Northside Christian Academy Crusaders on Tuesday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Taylor Hill (JR) made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brianna McNeill ( JR) and Hailey Holmes (SR) did most of the damage at the plate: McNeill ( JR) got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double, while Holmes (SR) got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI McNeill ( JR) has posted since back in March. Rese Pruett (SR) was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Wardlaw Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got Wardlaw Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Northside Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wardlaw Academy will head out to face off against Hammond at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northside Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Laurens Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
