Basketball Preview: Elizabeth Cardinals vs. Mitchell Marauders
The Elizabeth Cardinals will head out on the road to challenge the Mitchell Marauders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Elizabeth and 41 for the Marauders dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Elizabeth came up short against the Titans and fell 61-52. Elizabeth has struggled against the Titans recently, as their matchup on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Cooper Connelley, who scored 13 points along with four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Caleb Dunn, who scored 15 points.
Even though they lost, Elizabeth were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 76-25, which was the final score in Mitchell's tilt against the Scorpions on Friday. Mitchell was down 68-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Elizabeth dropped their record down to 3-16 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. Mitchell's record is now 0-18.
Everything came up roses for Elizabeth against the Marauders in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 70-25 win. With Elizabeth ahead 40-8 at the half, the match was all but over already.
