Softball Recap: West Central Comes Up Short

West Central came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 15-7 to the Rensselaer Central Bombers. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bombers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Kyra Leman and Cassidy Lattimore stepped up to the plate in a big way. Leman went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Lattimore went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Lattimore has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Franscoviak, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

West Central has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Rensselaer Central, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6.

Coming up, West Central will welcome Washington Township at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rensselaer Central, they will take on Kankakee Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Kougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Bombers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
