Preview: Ganado Indians vs. Schulenburg Shorthorns

The Ganado Indians will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Schulenburg Shorthorns at 6:15 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Ganado and three for Schulenburg.

Ganado suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Flatonia on the road and fell 62-19. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ganado in their matchups with Flatonia: they've now lost four in a row.

Ganado used a three-pronged attack on offense: Aileen Zavala, Avery Torres, and Paisley Hajovsky posted three points each. Laci Holt held things down on the boards with five rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, Schulenburg had to suffer through a rough 62-30 loss at the hands of Flatonia. Schulenburg was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-15.

Despite the loss, Schulenburg saw an underclassman step up: Grace Schramek scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals. Alana Herzik was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.

Ganado has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season. As for Schulenburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-23.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Ganado have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Schulenburg, though, as they've been averaging only 37.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Ganado beat Schulenburg 44-37 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Will Ganado repeat their success, or does Schulenburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
