Softball Recap: Leonardtown Extends Winning Streak to Six

Leonardtown had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the La Plata Warriors as they made off with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won nine matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Claire Radford's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Leonardtown got a massive performance out of Lindsay Hunter, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Wathen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Leonardtown pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for La Plata, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Leonardtown will face off against Calvert at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for La Plata, they will square off against Thomas Stone at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
