Basketball Game Preview: Kermit Yellow Jackets vs. Fort Stockton Panthers

The Kermit Yellow Jackets will head out to take on the Fort Stockton Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kermit has three straight wins, Fort Stockton has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Kermit is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing McCamey: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Yellow Jackets blew the Badgers out of the water with a 76-45 final score. The Yellow Jackets pushed the score to 60-34 by the end of the third, a deficit the Badgers had little chance of recovering from.

Kermit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keaton Thomas out in front who went 6-for-9 on his way to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Thomas' big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Quiroz, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.

Kermit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Fort Stockton scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against Midland, falling 80-57.

Fort Stockton's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Kermit, their record now sits at 3-0.

Kermit couldn't quite finish off Fort Stockton in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 and fell 51-49. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
