Softball Game Preview: Oak Hill Red Devils vs. Nitro Wildcats

The Oak Hill Red Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Nitro Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oak Hill will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Oak Hill is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Summers County a 19-0 shutout on Saturday. With that win, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Oak Hill got a massive performance out of Kennedy King, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. King has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Peyten Farrell also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Oak Hill lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Nitro came into Wednesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on St. Joseph Central with a sharp 12-2 victory on Wednesday.

McKenzie Hyatt was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Hyatt was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Hyatt, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Lyndi Campbell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Oak Hill's record now sits at 8-6. As for Nitro, their record is now 4-12.

Oak Hill was able to grind out a solid win over Nitro in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
