Softball Preview: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Roswell Coyotes

Carlsbad is a perfect 10-0 against Roswell since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls will square off against the Coyotes at 4:30 p.m. Carlsbad will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

15 must be Carlsbad's lucky number: they beat Clovis with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls didn't even let the Wildcats on the board, marking the Cavemen/Cavegirls' second-straight 15-0 shutout.

Kalion Fuentes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Faith Rivera was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Katrina Ortega was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Carlsbad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Roswell hadn't done well against Hobbs recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Coyotes blew past the Eagles 9-3. The Coyotes not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 7th.

Carlsbad pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Roswell, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11.
