Basketball Recap: Batesville Skates Past South Decatur with Ease

Batesville won the last time they faced South Decatur and things went their way on Friday too. The Batesville Bulldogs blew past the South Decatur Cougars 76-42. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Cougars are ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why South Decatur lost, don't look at Karson Templeton. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lucas Ballard, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Batesville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points over those games. South Decatur has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Batesville will be playing in front of their home fans against Shelbyville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Decatur, they and Edinburgh will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played.
