Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Comes Up Short

Notre Dame extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 15-2 to the East Stroudsburg South Cavaliers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Notre Dame saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sven Van De Loecht, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Jacob Gillon also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for East Stroudsburg South, their win bumped their record up to 11-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On East Stroudsburg South's side, Aidan Cruz was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Cruz has posted since April 3rd. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael O'Donnell, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Notre Dame will challenge Wilson Area at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for East Stroudsburg South, they will take on Pleasant Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears are coming into the matchup with three straight victories at home, so the Cavaliers will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
