Baseball Recap: St. Xavier Takes Down Ranked Ballard

St. Xavier faced Ballard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Bruins 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won five in a row.

Jakob Reed tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Jaxon Coomer was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.

St. Xavier's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.25 runs across that stretch. As for Ballard, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins and brought them to 29-2.

Coming up, St. Xavier will welcome North Oldham at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Ballard, they have already played their next matchup, a 14-9 victory against Paducah Tilghman on the 2nd.
