Softball Recap: Mulberry Grove Wins Going Away Against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City

Mulberry Grove won the last time they faced Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Aces blew past the Bobcats 11-1. Considering the Aces have won five games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lily Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Stone, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Jenni Mezo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Mulberry Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City only posted an OBP of .300.

Mulberry Grove is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Coming up, Mulberry Grove will host Staunton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Aces 3.9, the Bulldogs 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, they will face off against Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
