The Nazareth Area Blue Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Whitehall Zephyrs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nazareth Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Nazareth Area earned a 6-2 win over Northampton.
Avery Kauffman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gianna Perillo was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Shauna McNamee, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Perillo wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Nazareth Area lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Whitehall had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Zephyrs, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Morgan Laub made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Laub was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Whitehall got a big performance out of Alyssa Dunbar, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Dunbar also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Nya Brown was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Nazareth Area pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.1 runs this season. As for Whitehall, their record is now 6-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Nazareth Area has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Whitehall struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Nazareth Area skirted past Whitehall 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Will the Blue Eagles repeat their success, or do the Zephyrs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
