Softball Recap: Archbishop McCarthy Comes Up Short

Archbishop McCarthy lost against Cardinal Gibbons back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Archbishop McCarthy fell just short of Cardinal Gibbons by a score of 5-3.

Archbishop McCarthy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Varona, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Archbishop McCarthy has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.67 runs. The win (which was Cardinal Gibbons' ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Coincidentally, Archbishop McCarthy and Cardinal Gibbons will both be playing St. Thomas Aquinas the next time they take the field. Archbishop McCarthy will host St. Thomas Aquinas at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Cardinal Gibbons will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
