Baseball Game Preview: South Pasadena Tigers vs. St. Paul Swordsmen

The South Pasadena Tigers will face off against the St. Paul Swordsmen at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games South Pasadena has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Saturday just wasn't the day for South Pasadena's offense. They fell just short of Paraclete by a score of 1-0 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, St. Paul entered their tilt with Serra on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Cavaliers get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. The Swordsmen's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.

Fernie Soto made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angelo Patino, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Tristan Foster also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

St. Paul's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for South Pasadena, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.
