Softball Recap: La Plata Has No Trouble Against Mcdonough

After only two runs in their last matchup, La Plata made sure to put some runs up on the board against McDonough on Wednesday. The Warriors blew past the Rams 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Sophie Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Payton Buckler was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Madalyn Earnshaw also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

La Plata now has a winning record of 3-2. As for McDonough, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, La Plata will challenge Calvert at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for McDonough, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Leonardtown at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
