Basketball Recap: Mize Comes Up Short

The Mize Bulldogs lost 66-42 to the Purvis Tornadoes on Friday.

Purvis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Beni Raanes out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Raanes a new career-high in rebounds. Judd Gipson was another key player, putting up 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Mize's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Purvis, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mize will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Richton at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Purvis will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Lawrence County at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
