Basketball Recap: South Kingstown Falls Despite Big Games from Makenzie Ribeiro and Olivia Short

South Kingstown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 52-39 to the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals. The Rebels were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bengals from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

South Kingstown's loss came despite strong showings from Olivia Short and Makenzie Ribeiro. Short posted six points in addition to seven boards and four steals, while Ribeiro earned 11 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Abbie O'Rourke, who scored 11 points and three steals.

St. Mary Academy-Bay View found their leader in freshman Genesis Castro, who went 9 for 20 on her way to 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castro has scored all season. Qiana Sumner was another key player, putting up nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.

South Kingstown's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

South Kingstown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-47 win against Classical on the 30th. St. Mary Academy-Bay View has also already played their next contest, a 56-36 victory against Cranston West on the 30th.
