Volleyball Recap: Bernalillo Comes Up Short

Bernalillo was the 3-2 winner over Shiprock when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell 3-1 to the Chieftains on Saturday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, 24-26, 25-18.

Bernalillo's offense was headlined by Rayann Downing and Savannah Townsend, who picked up seven kills apiece. Downing really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 17. Townsend was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Bernalillo's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Shiprock, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bernalillo will take on Highland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shiprock, after both having extra time off, they and Bloomfield will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on October 7. This will be the Chieftains' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
