Baseball Recap: Calloway County Comes Up Short

Calloway County extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 12-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Owensboro Catholic Aces. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Aces this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Saturday.

As for Owensboro Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games.

For Owensboro Catholic's part, Jaxson White looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. White has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Parker Heistand, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Coming up, Calloway County will host McCracken County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Lakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Owensboro Catholic, they will take on Madisonville-North Hopkins at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Aces' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Maroons have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
