Baseball Recap: Edinburg North Comes Up Short

Edinburg North extended their losing streak to ten on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-25 in the process. They came up short against the Edinburg Bobcats, falling 11-1. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Edinburg North saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Edinburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Edinburg's side, Chris Vargas made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). Edinburg is 4-2 when Vargas allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-12 otherwise. Vargas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ryan Castillo was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zack Gonzalez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

While Edinburg North had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
