The Moorpark Musketeers will head out to challenge the Royal Highlanders at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Moorpark is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Moorpark can't be too worried about heading out to take on Royal: they just beat Simi Valley at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Musketeers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers on Thursday, sneaking past 5-3. The win was familiar territory for the Musketeers, who have now won three matches in a row.
Kiley Finnerty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Nathalie Hernandez was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sydney Burckhard, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Royal came up short against Simi Valley on Friday and fell 7-3.
Holly White made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Lidija Faubert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Moorpark pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Royal, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Moorpark hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Royal struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Moorpark skirted past Royal 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Musketeers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
