Baseball Recap: Westbury Huskies vs. Carnegie Vanguard Rhinos
Westbury extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-14-1 in the process. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carnegie Vanguard Rhinos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rhinos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Tuesday.
Westbury saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yandel Leal, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
As for Carnegie Vanguard, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
On Carnegie Vanguard's side, the team relied heavily on Grant Go, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The Rhinos are undefeated when Go posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Bennett Woolsey also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Westbury does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carnegie Vanguard, they will square off against Randle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rhinos surely won't give up without a fight.
