Wheat Ridge had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They took down the Standley Lake Gators 47-28. The Farmers pushed the score to 47-15 by the end of the third, a deficit the Gators cut but never quite recovered from.

A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Isaac Mccune and his top target Bennett Wilkes. Mccune threw for 273 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes while Wilkes picked up 151 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Wilkes was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 56 yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Wheat Ridge was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 455 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.

Wheat Ridge's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Wilkes, Damion Powell, and Dylan Killmeyer picked up one apiece.

Despite the loss, Standley Lake still got an impressive performance from Brandan Collier, who picked up 40 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Adrian Ingram got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Standley Lake's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Wheat Ridge will be defending their home-field for the first time this season they go up against Hays at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Standley Lake, they will face off against Bear Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
