Volleyball Recap: Gulf Shores Falls Short Against Ranked Spanish Fort

Gulf Shores faced Spanish Fort in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Dolphins came up short against the Toros, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Dolphins have suffered since September 11th.

While Gulf Shores was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Spanish Fort's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-18.

Macey Moore paced Gulf Shores' offense, picking up 13 kills. Moore got some help from Velmira Sobol and her 19 assists. Moore was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Gulf Shores' defeat ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-7. As for Spanish Fort, they pushed their record up to 35-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Gulf Shores will challenge Baldwin County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spanish Fort, they have already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Jasper on the 26th.
