Baseball Recap: Bishop McDevitt Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Bishop McDevitt ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hershey Trojans, sneaking past 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Crusaders: when they faced off against the Trojans back in April, they had to take a 2-0 defeat.

Vince Leoni was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Bishop McDevitt let Logan Boone and Calvin Snyder run wild. Boone went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Snyder went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Bishop McDevitt is 4-2 when Snyder posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Ryan Sprow was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Bishop McDevitt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hershey only managed five.

Bishop McDevitt's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hershey, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.

Hershey wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 7-1 defeat against Boiling Springs on the 8th. Hopefully Bishop McDevitt paid attention to the Trojans' matchup: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Trojans at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
