Baseball Recap: Mt. Carmel Golden Aces vs. Princeton Tigers
Mt. Carmel had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-5 to make it four. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Princeton Tigers. The Golden Aces were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Asher Coston was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Sloss, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
As for Princeton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.
On Princeton's side, Ryne Wilhite was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Wilhite has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played.
In other batting news, Jarrett Kinder was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Mater Cowan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Coming up, Mt. Carmel will be playing in front of their home fans against Lawrenceville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Princeton, they will venture away from home to take on Evansville Reitz at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 2.9, the Panthers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
