Basketball Game Preview: Cambridge Trojans vs. Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves

The Cambridge Trojans will take on the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Cambridge turned things around against Anselmo-Merna on Saturday. They came out on top against the Coyotes by a score of 39-32.

Cambridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hodge Raburn, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Those 11 boards gave Raburn a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Ahlemeyer, who posted 14 points.

Meanwhile, Maywood/Hayes Center entered their tilt with Garden County on Monday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 49-46 win over the Eagles. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by exactly three points.

Maywood/Hayes Center pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.6 points. As for Cambridge, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.

Cambridge came out on top in a nail-biter against Maywood/Hayes Center when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 58-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cambridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
