Basketball Game Preview: Broughton Capitals vs. Blue Ridge Barons

The Broughton Capitals will square off against the Blue Ridge Barons at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Broughton saw some tournament action last Saturday. They took a 75-59 bruising from Highland. The Capitals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Broughton got top-tier performance from Jordan Page, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Page's afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. George Hatem was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Blue Ridge put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Carlisle 83-27. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 53-12.

Blue Ridge's win came from a few key players Broughton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kamdon Brangman-Cain, who shot 78% from the field to rack up 18 points. He has also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 50% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Derrius Jones, who went 6-for-9 en route to 14 points and three steals.

Blue Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Blue Ridge's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Broughton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Broughton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 71.2 points per game. However, it's not like Blue Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 73 points.
