Softball Game Preview: Buckeye Trail Warriors vs. Caldwell Redskins

The Buckeye Trail Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the Caldwell Redskins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Buckeye Trail fell victim to Strasburg-Franklin and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 9-0 to the Tigers. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Gwen McElwain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Lindsey Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Caldwell had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Pilots. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Caldwell's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Buckeye Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Buckeye Trail couldn't quite get it done against Caldwell in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 as they fell 7-2. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
