Basketball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Cardinal Gibbons won the last time they faced Broughton and things went their way on Monday too. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders strolled past the Broughton Capitals with points to spare, taking the game 53-36. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Cardinal Gibbons' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cash McSweeney, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. McSweeney is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games he's played. Bryce Fitzsimmons was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Cardinal Gibbons was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Broughton only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, Broughton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sam Freeman posted nine points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for Freeman. Another player making a difference was Storm Taylor, who had nine points.

Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Broughton, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.
