Baseball Recap: Thornton Comes Up Short

Thornton had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-14 to make it seven. They came up short against the Gateway Olympians, falling 17-3. The Trojans were not able to make up for their loss to the Olympians from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Thornton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesus Munoz, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Gateway, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.

On Gateway's side, they let Angel Ferrusquia and Mervin Loya run wild. Ferrusquia went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Loya went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those five stolen bases gave Loya a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Roberto Rosario, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Thornton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 17-7 defeat against Overland on the 17th. As for Gateway, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-4 win against Aurora Central on the 17th.
