Apollo takes loss despite strong efforts from Joe Sumpter and Christian Acevedo

Recap: Apollo Hawks vs. Ironwood Eagles

The Apollo Hawks won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 63-32 loss at the hands of Ironwood. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Apollo has scored all season.

Despite the defeat, Apollo had strong showings from Christian Acevedo, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two blocks, and Joe Sumpter, who scored six points.

Ironwood was led to victory by Blake Carabio and Noah Gifft. Carabio scored 21 points along with five assists and two steals, while Gifft went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 2 assists. Gifft hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Jadden Jones was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Apollo's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Ironwood, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.

Apollo and Kellis will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Kellis is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Ironwood, they will head out on the road to take on Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centennial will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Ironwood is ranked fifth).
