Leila Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Alaina Tavena was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Sophia Franco, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Coconino never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Poston Butte.
The result came thanks to Kaitlyn Tso's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Destiny Villas, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Cassidey Castillo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Coconino has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marcos de Niza, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marcos de Niza hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Coconino struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
