Basketball Recap: Trinity Lutheran Starts Season with Victory Against Shawe Memorial

Trinity Lutheran gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They managed a 64-58 win over the Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 44-38 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Leading Trinity Lutheran to victory were MARLEY WARREN and RACHEL BONDE. WARREN went 8-for-13 from beyond the arc to rack up 36 points, while BONDE dropped a double-double with 13 points and 18 boards. BONDE has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was BAILEY BONDE, who posted eight points and 11 boards.

Trinity Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Shawe Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity Lutheran will host Brownstown Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shawe Memorial, they will welcome South Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
