Basketball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Hempstead Mustangs

The Kennedy Cougars will square off against the Hempstead Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Kennedy lost 69-45 to Wahlert on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 14th).

Meanwhile, Hempstead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 75-36 to Xavier, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Kennedy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Hempstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Kennedy strolled past Hempstead in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 66-49. Will Kennedy repeat their success, or does Hempstead have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
