Basketball Game Preview: Southwest Guilford Cowboys vs. Grimsley Whirlies

Southwest Guilford hasn't had much luck against Grimsley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Southwest Guilford Cowboys will challenge the Grimsley Whirlies at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Southwest Guilford's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 games.

Southwest Guilford is headed into the match having just posted their biggest win since February 19, 2024 on Thursday. They blew past Ragsdale 78-50. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Tigers are ranked 581st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Grimsley earned a 66-58 victory over Western Guilford on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Whirlies.

Southwest Guilford better keep an eye on Faizon Brandon. He was instrumental in Grimsley's win, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Brandon has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Trent, who posted ten points.

Grimsley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Southwest Guilford has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Grimsley, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

Southwest Guilford couldn't quite finish off Grimsley when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 65-63. Can Southwest Guilford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
