Baseball Recap: Washington Rams vs. Fairfax Stampede

Suggested Video

Washington had lost seven straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it eight. They lost 16-6 to the Fairfax Stampede. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 18-0 to the Stampede when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Austin Ashford was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Michael Alpista, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

As for Fairfax, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by ten runs or more this season.

On Fairfax's side, Daniel Alaniz made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Alaniz is becoming a predictor of Fairfax's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 6-3 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Alaniz was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Nathaniel Pineda was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marsellis Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

As of now, neither Washington nor Fairfax have any future games scheduled.
