Baseball Game Preview: Arleta Mustangs vs. Monroe Vikings

The Arleta Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Monroe Vikings at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Arleta will be strutting in after a victory while Monroe will be coming in after a defeat.

Arleta took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Vaughn, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Arleta won by a run and slipped past Vaughn 2-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Michael Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mario Trujillo was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Monroe fell victim to Verdugo Hills and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Dons, falling 20-0. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Dons recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Arleta, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-7.

Arleta couldn't quite finish off Monroe in their previous meeting back in February and fell 3-1. Can Arleta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
