Softball Recap: Excel Panthers vs. Sweet Water Bulldogs
Excel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sweet Water Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 back in March.
Avery Duke was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Duke was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Alivia Johnson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.
Excel's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Sweet Water, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Looking ahead, Excel will take on Monroe County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sweet Water, they will square off against Thomasville at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
