Soccer Game Preview: South Houston vs. Pearland

South Houston is 0-6 against Pearland since January of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The South Houston Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Pearland Oilers at 7:30 p.m. South Houston has given up an average of 5.9 goals per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

South Houston is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to Shadow Creek. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 704th, while the Sharks are ranked 186th).

Meanwhile, Pearland's contest on Friday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. They never let Shadow Creek get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. Considering the Oilers have won nine games by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

They hit Shadow Creek with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Parker Holloway, Kaelynn Pablo, and Anahi Gil.

Pearland is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 38 goals over those eight contests. South Houston's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.

South Houston suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Pearland in their previous matchup back in February. Can South Houston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
