Baseball Recap: Lumberton Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lumberton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Laurel Golden Tornadoes 6-5. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Brendan Watters tossed a big game, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Tyler Morrison and Urijah Spinner did most of the damage at the plate: Morrison went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Spinner scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Spinner a new career-high.

Lumberton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 8-2-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.1 runs over those games. Laurel's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Lumberton has already played their next matchup (against Heidelberg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Laurel will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Gautier at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th.
