Softball Game Preview: Holy Spirit Spartans vs. Our Lady of Mercy Academy Villagers

The Holy Spirit Spartans will square off against the Our Lady of Mercy Academy Villagers at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy will be up against a hot Holy Spirit squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Spartans never let Atlantic City get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Sunday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Our Lady of Mercy Academy can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Cumberland Christian.

Teegan Sofran was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Sofran was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Isabel Quinlan was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Riley Welker, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Holy Spirit's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Our Lady of Mercy Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Holy Spirit came out on top in a nail-biter against Our Lady of Mercy Academy in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Villagers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
