Volleyball Recap: Grand Island Islanders vs. Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks

Grand Island lost against Lincoln Southwest back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Islanders lost 3-0 to the Silver Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Islanders have suffered since August 28th.

Grand Island was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-15, 25-22.

Zada Gernstein paced Grand Island's offense, picking up eight kills. Gernstein got some help from Alexa Sackschewsky and her 12 assists. Finally, Gernstein was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

Leading Lincoln Southwest to victory were Taryn Weigel and Jadyn Hazzard. Weigel had nine digs and three aces, while Hazzard had six digs and one assist. Those three aces gave Weigel a new career-high. Eleanor Griffin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Grand Island now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Lincoln Southwest, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.
