Softball Recap: Mars Fightin' Planets vs. Southmoreland Scotties

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ellwood City, Mars was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Southmoreland Scotties 11-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Fightin' Planets considering their two-run performance the game before.

Tessa Simoni and Laura Craska did most of the damage at the plate: Simoni scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Craska got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Foltz, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

The win got Mars back to even at 1-1. As for Southmoreland, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mars will welcome Pine-Richland at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southmoreland, they will host Charleroi at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
