Baseball Recap: Williamsburg Comes Up Short

Williamsburg extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 6-10. They came up short against the Moshannon Valley Black Knights/Damsels, falling 8-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Biue Pirates were not able to get on the board.

As for Moshannon Valley, they now have a winning record of 8-7. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 7th (when they won 12-1).

For Moshannon Valley's part, Brady Kephart made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Kephart has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Moshannon Valley let Rocco Reifer and Ian Dunsmore run wild. Reifer went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Dunsmore went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Reifer has posted since back in April. Mason Abernethy also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Looking ahead, Williamsburg will face off against Curwensville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Biue Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Tide have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Moshannon Valley, they will host Glendale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.13 runs per game on average), something the Black Knights/Damsels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
