Baseball Recap: Marquette Catholic Victorious

Marquette Catholic won the last time they faced Wesclin and things went their way on Monday too. The Explorers walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Warriors. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Explorers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Robert Roentz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Roentz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Marquette Catholic: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Eli Rodgers and Joe Stephan did most of the damage at the plate: Rodgers went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Stephan went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Rodgers has posted since back in April of 2025. Jack Rea was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Marquette Catholic's record now sits at 9-12. As for Wesclin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marquette Catholic will host Carrollton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Explorers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Wesclin, they will welcome Carlyle at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
