Basketball Recap: University Tigers vs. Memphis Rise Academy Rockets
University's game on Wednesday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 58-46 to the Memphis Rise Academy Rockets. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rockets earlier this season, when they won 64-45.
Ivory Allen and LaTrevius Gant certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Allen shot 67% from the field to rack up 13 points, while Gant posted 13 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Shann, who had eight points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Memphis Rise Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darius Gates, who went 8-for-15 on his way to 19 points. Gates is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ta'Varreo Smith, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for University and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Memphis Rise Academy, they pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
University wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-42 defeat against Middle College on the 12th. As for Memphis Rise Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 60-51 victory against Trezevant on the 12th.
