Softball Recap: Jennings Wins Going Away Against Merryville

Jennings won the last time they faced Merryville and things went their way on Saturday too. The Jennings Bulldogs put the hurt on the Merryville Panthers with a sharp 12-2 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.

Jenna Morvant made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Emma Venable was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylie Price, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Jennings was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Jennings' record now sits at 4-2. As for Merryville, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3.

Coming up, Jennings will welcome Lake Arthur at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jennings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Lake Arthur's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Merryville, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
